A Detailed Guide to the 2026 Seoul Summer Beach Festival
Looking for an easy and inexpensive way to cool down in central Seoul? 2026 Seoul Summer Beach has transformed Gwanghwamun Square and the nearby Sejongno Park into a temporary urban water-play area, complete with swimming pools, an eight-metre-high water slide, a giant tipping water bucket, a shallow inflatable pool for younger children, a sand-play area, food trucks, and shaded rest spaces.
The festival is currently running and will continue until Sunday, August 9, 2026. Admission is free. The main festival area is located at Gwanghwamun Square and Sejongno Park, directly in the historic centre of Seoul.
1. Basic Information
Event: 2026 Seoul Summer Beach
Dates: July 20–August 9, 2026
Location: Gwanghwamun Square and Sejongno Park
Admission: Free
Main operating hours: Approximately 1:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Festival information number: 02-6941-0645
International telephone format: +82-2-6941-0645
Important note about the operating hours
Some official festival summary pages still display 1:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m., while Seoul Metropolitan Government’s more detailed event information lists the general festival hours as 1:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. The detailed Water Wave Zone timetable also includes sessions continuing until 10:00 p.m., or until 10:30 p.m. for the special Friday and Saturday night session. Visitors should therefore check the detailed session schedule and same-day announcements before travelling.
2. The Water Wave Zone
The main attraction is the Water Wave Zone, which includes:
A large outdoor swimming pool
An eight-metre-high water slide
A large water bucket that releases water at intervals
A shallow inflatable pool designed for babies and younger children
Safety staff and controlled entry by session
The swimming and water-play facilities use a timed-entry system to prevent overcrowding and allow regular cleaning, equipment inspections, and water-quality management. Regular entry is handled through on-site registration, after which visitors receive a coloured admission wristband for a particular session. Capacity is limited, so arriving early is strongly recommended, especially on weekends and during late-afternoon sessions.

3. Regular Water-Play Session Times
Sunday through Thursday
The detailed Water Wave Zone schedule lists the following sessions:

Session 6: 8:50 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Regular sessions accommodate up to approximately 700 wristband holders, subject to on-site safety and capacity controls.
Friday and Saturday
The daytime and early-evening sessions are broadly similar, but the final session is a special night programme:
Session 1: 1:00 p.m.–2:10 p.m.
Session 2: 2:30 p.m.–3:40 p.m.
Session 3: 4:00 p.m.–5:10 p.m.

Session 4: 5:50 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
Session 5: 7:20 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Adult-only night session: 9:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
The final Friday and Saturday session is an adults-only programme and is limited to advance reservation holders. The detailed timetable lists a capacity of approximately 400 people for this session. Visitors planning to attend should check the official Seoul Summer Beach social-media announcements for the latest reservation instructions and identification requirements.
4. What You Must Wear
Visitors entering the swimming pool must wear appropriate swimming clothes.
Required or permitted clothing includes:
A swimsuit or clothing made from proper swimwear material
A swimming cap
A regular baseball-style cap may be accepted instead of a traditional swimming cap
Aqua shoes
Bare feet are allowed when aqua shoes are not available
The organisers do not allow ordinary cotton T-shirts, jeans, or other clothing unsuitable for swimming. Bare upper bodies are also prohibited, so male visitors should bring a rash guard or another appropriate swimming top.
A rash guard is therefore one of the safest and most convenient clothing choices, particularly for foreign visitors who may be unfamiliar with local swimming-pool dress rules.
5. What to Bring
A practical packing list would include:
Swimsuit or rash guard
Swimming cap or suitable cap
Aqua shoes
Towel
A complete change of clothes
Waterproof bag for wet clothing
Sunscreen
Refillable water bottle
Waterproof phone case
Small plastic bag for personal items
Identification, particularly when attending an adult-only programme
Large flotation devices and specialised swimming equipment are not permitted. Visitors should leave large tubes, flippers, snorkels, and kickboards at their accommodation.
Because Seoul is currently experiencing very hot weather, the city advises visitors to drink water regularly, take frequent breaks, and avoid excessive outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. Rest areas and drinking-water facilities are available around Gwanghwamun Square.
6. Rules for Children and Families
Babies and young children cannot enter the water-play area without a parent or guardian.
For organised groups of babies or young children, at least one accompanying adult is required for every four children. Parents and guardians must remain attentive and follow the instructions of the safety staff.
The shallow inflatable pool is particularly suitable for families with younger children, although all facilities remain subject to capacity restrictions and safety decisions made by on-site staff.
7. Safety and Health Rules
Visitors must follow the directions of the lifeguards and safety staff. Anyone who refuses to follow safety instructions may be restricted from using the facilities or asked to leave.
Swimming-pool entry is not permitted for visitors with infectious eye conditions, skin conditions, or other illnesses that could affect public hygiene. Anyone who feels dizzy, unwell, overheated, or physically uncomfortable while swimming should leave the water immediately and inform a member of staff.
Pets are not permitted inside the controlled water-play area.
8. Changing Rooms, Showers, Lockers, and Rest Areas
The Water Wave Zone provides:
Changing rooms
Simple rinse-off shower facilities
Lockers or storage facilities
Safety and support staff
The showers are intended only for a quick rinse with water. Shampoo, soap, body wash, and other shower products are not permitted. Visitors are asked to rinse before entering the pool and to take care because the floors may be slippery.
Locker capacity is limited, so families and groups are encouraged to share storage space rather than using one locker per person. Valuable belongings should be kept securely, as the organisers do not accept responsibility for lost personal property.
Additional free changing rooms, drying facilities, and shaded pergola rest areas are available near the Hangeul Fountain area. These supporting facilities are scheduled to operate daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. through August 9.
9. Free Splash Fountains at Gwanghwamun Square
Visitors who do not wish to enter the swimming-pool area can still enjoy the public fountains at Gwanghwamun Square.
The three main water features are:
Myeongnyang Fountain
Hangeul Fountain
Tunnel Fountain
Following an official operating-time update issued on August 3, the fountains are currently scheduled to operate daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the same hours on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays. This schedule applies through August 31, 2026.
The fountains may be temporarily stopped because of rain, strong wind, maintenance, water-quality checks, or other safety concerns. Visitors should therefore check the latest Gwanghwamun Square announcements before departure.
The fountains are a convenient option for families who want a shorter and less structured water-play experience without registering for a timed swimming-pool session.
10. Sand Play, Market Stalls, and Food Trucks
The Play Wave Zone includes the Sand Hideout, a dome-shaped sand-play area approximately twelve metres in diameter.
It operates in nine approximately 50-minute sessions:
1:00 p.m.–1:50 p.m.
2:00 p.m.–2:50 p.m.
3:00 p.m.–3:50 p.m.
4:00 p.m.–4:50 p.m.
5:00 p.m.–5:50 p.m.
6:00 p.m.–6:50 p.m.
7:00 p.m.–7:50 p.m.
8:00 p.m.–8:50 p.m.
9:00 p.m.–9:50 p.m.
Each session has a capacity of approximately 50 visitors, generally divided between advance reservations and a limited number of on-site places. Advance reservations that are not claimed within ten minutes of the session’s starting time may be treated as no-shows and released to on-site visitors. The sand area is normally used barefoot, and visitors should dry themselves completely before entering.
The Play Market Zone includes small-business market stalls and food trucks selling snacks, meals, drinks, and summer goods, allowing visitors to stay in the festival area without leaving to find food.
11. How to Get There
Public transport is strongly recommended because Gwanghwamun is one of central Seoul’s busiest districts.
From Gwanghwamun Station
Take Seoul Subway Line 5 to Gwanghwamun Station.
The most convenient routes are:
The underground passage connecting directly to Haechi Madang
Exit 7, toward the Gwanghwamun Square forest area
From Gyeongbokgung Station
Take Seoul Subway Line 3 to Gyeongbokgung Station and use:
Exit 6, toward the Government Complex and Gwanghwamun
Both stations are within walking distance of the festival area.
For taxi or navigation applications, search for:
Gwanghwamun Square
Korean: 광화문광장
The main water-play facilities are positioned around Gwanghwamun Square and Sejongno Park, near the King Sejong statue area.
12. Recommended Visiting Strategy
For the most comfortable experience:
Arrive before your preferred session, particularly on weekends.
Register on site and obtain the correct coloured wristband.
Change into swimwear before the session begins.
Keep the wristband on throughout the session, including during any temporary exit.
Use shaded rest areas and drink water frequently.
Avoid bringing excessive luggage because locker space is limited.
Check the weather forecast and official same-day announcements.
Consider visiting after 5:00 p.m. to avoid the strongest afternoon sun.
Families seeking a simpler visit may use the fountains instead of the controlled swimming-pool zone.
Allow additional time to explore Gwanghwamun Square, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Cheonggyecheon Stream, or the surrounding historic district.
13. Final Reminders
Admission is free, but entry to controlled areas is limited by capacity.
Regular water-play sessions require on-site registration and a wristband.
Swimwear and a swimming cap are required.
Cotton T-shirts and jeans are not permitted in the swimming pool.
Wear aqua shoes or enter barefoot.
Bring a rash guard because bare upper bodies are not allowed.
Large tubes, fins, snorkels, and kickboards are prohibited.
Young children must be accompanied by a guardian.
Shower facilities are for rinsing with water only.
Fountain and festival schedules may change because of weather, safety inspections, or operational conditions.
The festival ends on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
As the event is taking place during a period of extreme summer heat, visitors should drink plenty of water, rest frequently, use shaded areas whenever possible, and avoid remaining in direct sunlight for long periods.
